AISO (Affordable Internet Services Online, Inc.) established their environmentally friendly web hosting in 1997. AISO has been featured as one of Inc. Magazine’s “Top 50 Green Companies,” and it is the first and currently the only public data center member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). This hosting provider owns and operates its data center and network, both powered by solar panels – not by energy credits.

Features

AISO’s data center supports an environmentally friendly design with steel frames and no wood except for the door frames. Their walls are over 12-inches thick and filled with recycled content. Additionally, they built their data center, network, and servers from the start to use the lowest amount of energy without cutting service to customers. They also provide a choice between Linux and Windows servers for their dedicated server offerings.

AISO provides room for co-location (so you don’t need to build a green data center), and they offer Windows and Linux plans that are reasonably priced. They also offer dedicated servers, a virtual desktop manager, a mailing list manager and a file manager. They offer customers an “Online Web Site WYSIWYG Editor” that includes a blog, guestbook, feedback forum, and more. They also provide the more experience Web manager with scripts that will support just about any program, although the developer might read through the restrictions in AISO’s terms of service. AISO, for instance, doesn’t allow users to install chat rooms. But, for a small charge, AISO Java chat rooms that meet most users’ needs and run without hindering system performance.

Reliability & Reputation

AISO uses bandwidth provided by AT&T, Time Warner, and Megapath. The bandwidth is redundant, with Cisco 7200 VXR series routers, ASA 5500 series firewalls, and Catalyst 4500 series Gigabit switches. They also provide backup servers and power supplies and they run redundant monitoring servers that monitor each piece of equipment in the network. The system notifies their NOC (Network Operating Center), so any issue with switches, routers, servers, bandwidth, and etc. are handled proactively. This type of service provides customers with a 99.9+% uptime guarantee.

Pricing

Any Web site hosted on AISO’s servers and that uses a high amount of server resources (such as, but not limited to, CPU time, memory usage, and network resources) as measured by AISO, will be given the option to either pay additional fees (which will depend on the resources required), reduce the resources used to an acceptable level, or upgrade its service to a Dedicated Server plan. AISO will be the sole arbiter of what is considered to be a high server usage level. Any Web Hosting and E-commerce account deemed to be adversely affecting server performance or network integrity will be shut down without prior notice. If your site is shut down, you will not be eligible for the uptime agreement.

Hosting programs can be purchased on a monthly, quarterly, semi-yearly or yearly billing cycle.
