What is it?

ISPManager is a Web hosting server control panel developed by ISPsystem Company in 1998. It was originally intended to be used as in-house software. The Web based control panel brings together high level server management and diagnostic functions for the complete automation of the servers. The multi-level system of management allows for easy control of all servers and allows the domain owner’s clients and domains to administer their own available resources and services.

Who is it for?

ISPManager is designed for users with no previous server administrator experience. It is a comprehensive control panel solution used by hosting providers worldwide for shared, virtual and dedicated hosting. There are two versions of ISPManager: ISPManager Lite and ISPManager Professional. The Professional version provides wider functionality for controlling a server. ISPManager Lite is for domain owners intending to host their own private sites on the server. ISPManager Professional is for those who intend to sell hosting services.

Features

ISPManager users can set up hosting accounts quickly and easily by clicking two buttons and entering data into three fields. Administrative functions for all accounts including Web site, email, FTP, and DNS are accessible from a single screen without having to navigate from page to page. Special features allow other administrator accounts to be created for admin level access to most functions on the server, including adding, editing, and managing domains, viewing real time data on running programs, disk space and bandwidth usage as well as uptime reports.

ISPManager also allows owners to develop their own designs or translate the interface into another language. ISPManager offers multi-level control. There are four login levels in the control panel, each withits own roles and responsibilities. The levels are Administrator, User, FTP account, and Mail Box. The additional level of Reseller is available for ISPManager Pro only. Administrator features include various mail services, management of disk space quotas and mail box limitations, and management of Web-server advanced settings. The control panel allows the administrator to easily configure and control the many features available, and to perform related tasks such as hardware and software setup and configuration, security, system maintenance, and user account management, all from the Web browser. User features include an organized user interface that makes the control panel easy to use. The user-oriented features include the ability to create mail boxes, sites, change passwords, and more.

ISPManager contains several user interface themes and supports various languages. The appearance of the whole environment can be changed through the themes control panel. ISPManager also supports integration with other software and addons. The panel is in development all of the time. An auto updating system is included to ensure that the domain owner always has the latest version. In addition, ISPsystems offers a trial with a fully-functional copy of the software available for download for evaluation purposes. After the trial period, it must be either removed from the computer or a license must be purchased to continue using it.

Compatibility

ISPManager is compatible with many Linux operating systems, including FreeBSD, Debian, Fedora, Gentoo, and CentOS. In “manual” mode the control panel can be installed on any Linux distributive. Web servers supported are Apache and nginx. Database servers supported are MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Firebird. ISPManager supports various mail servers including Sendmail, Postfix, Exim, and CommunGatePro, and any FTP server. No special software is required. If the server already has software installed, the domain owner will have no problems with setting this software to work with ISPManager control panel.
