What is it?
Lxadmin is a graphical control panel for managing Web hosting. It is available in two varieties, Lxadmin HostinABox and Lxadmin Enterprise. HostinABox claims to be the world’s lightest control panel, running full featured hosting on only 15 mb RAM. Lxadmin is a multi-server hosting platform capable of managing millions of domains on thousands of servers. Lxadmin was developed by Lxlabs, “a fast growing company specializing in Web based software solutions for hosting and enterprises.”
Who is it for?
Lxadmin is a single software developed to power all areas of a hosting business. It can power an entire shared hosting environment or simply provide a control panel to sell with VPS offerings. Either way, Lxadmin offers solutions to the common administration problems of the Web hosting provider.
Features
In order to consume only 9 mb RSS and 15 mb memory usage on bootup on the OpenVZ platform, LxAdmin HostinABox uses lighttpd and djbdns rather than apache and bind in the installation. LxAdmin Enterprise touts itself to be “the only truly distributed hosting platform.” Both are available on lease for a monthly fee per server with unlimited clients. Purchasers may choose 30, 100, or unlimited domains. Lxadmin allows the domain owner to run either lighttpd/apache or djbdns/bind, and also provides graphical interface to switch between these programs on a live server without losing any data.
Lxadmin Enterprise can transparently move Web, mail, and DNS from one server running apache to another running lighttpd without causing any downtime. Ownership of both clients and domains can be moved across resellers as well. In addition, Lxadmin comes integrated with Installapp which is a bundle of more than 130 Web applications that can be installed to the domain owner’s Web site.
In addition to these main features, Lxadmin offers general features including a messaging and ticketing system for communicating with customers on a multiple or singular level, a ticket alert system, a command line api to everything that can be done through Web interface, and capabilities including disable/enable resellers and change resellers’ quotas. When managing reseller quotas, it is possible to change the client’s ability to change a banner, enable frontpage, enable SSL, and create Web, Mail, and DNS server pools.
Lxadmin also offers backup of an entire account including domains, clients, databases, directory protects, and the contents of all of the resources. Any part of the backup can be restored at any time using a Web frontend. Mail functions include Catchall, Webmail, auto-responders, and SpamAssassin spam filtering. Database management functions include the ability to manage MySQL databases on multiple servers and intelligent phpMyAdmin access which provides automatic redirection to the correct server on which the database is configured.
Compatibility
Currently Lxadmin is available for Linux operating systems only. A Windows version release is planned for the end of April 2008. Installation of Lxadmin will automatically install apache, pure-ftp, and awstats Web servers, qmail, courier, Webmail, and httpd mail servers, bind and bind-chroot nameservers, and MySQL-server and postgresql database servers.
